I'm not sure if there's a word for my exact interior style - it definitely leans masculine with my love of dark walls and natural textures like wood, leather, and stone, and I tend to favor industrial, transitional, even Scandinavian designs that include those dark colors and natural textures. Throw in a white orchid, black and white photos, and a plethora of down pillows and I'm there.
But do I really need to define my style in a single word?
When I looked up at my pile of treasures sitting on the counter today at Consigners Collection, what really caught my eye was how cohesive and true to my style everything was. In the past, I found myself getting caught up in the verbiage of what style or "theme" my house was decorated in (farmhouse, shabby chic, etc.), and I made the mistake for way too long of buying things only because they matched that singular style, even if I didn't necessarily love them (or even like them!).
Once I got those items home, they either sat in storage unused, or I would manage to find a place for them and get annoyed every time I looked at them (a great example of this is those metal wall scrolls I got in my 2017 garage sale haul... absolutely adorable in the right house, but they just never worked in mine). Eventually, all those items suffered the same Goodwill or curbside fate.
The longer I've lived in this house and had complete creative freedom to paint or change anything I want, the more confident I've become in my own personal style. Looking at my haul today confirmed that.

One thing I had on my 'I'll get it eventually' list (similar to my French rolling pin I got last week at Burlington) for almost two years was a bread basket. A couple years ago, I hosted Easter dinner at my house. I needed a place to put rolls, and had to make a bowl + kitchen towel combo work. It wasn't ideal, and I made a mental note to add a bread basket to my Amazon cart.
Fast forward to Easter last year (what is it about Easter?). I made raisin bread to take over for my mom's dinner and didn't have a bread basket of course, so I just wrapped it and figured my mom would have something to put it in. My stepdad said, "I lost the bet! Your mom asked earlier if I would get out a bread basket for your bread and I bet her you'd bring it in your own special one."
Honestly, I took it as a compliment that he assumed I was Martha Stewart, but also made a second mental note that I needed to step my game up.
Finally, this perfect one was waiting for me today. I love the industrial style dark metal with the classic linen liner.
On the subject of baskets, how could I possibly pass up this beauty? I'm not absolutely sure of it, but it looks to be handmade. The black stripe ties it in with my other black decorative accents, and the jute twine handles add that touch of different texture against the water hyacinth. This is the only thing I bought that I didn't have a home for in my mind, but it fits like a glove on this little shelf. Now I need to find something to put in it!
This blue pillow was the only thing I bought at the second consignment shop we visited today, and I only bought it because I wanted the down insert. Not sure if it will live here on the bench by the dining room table or somewhere else but I can always find a place for pillows, and I don't have any other elongated ones like this. I'll get a new cover eventually but until then, I have to say the blue doesn't bother me too much. Once I change out my centerpiece for spring, it may be the perfect accent color.
Speaking of changing out my centerpiece, please direct your attention to the right side of this photo. That flocked pine garland, bundle of birch branches, and those pinecones were a soothing compromise when I finally ripped off the taking-down-my-Christmas-decor Band-Aid, but the outside air is finally shifting. It may still be freezing cold with those massive snow piles taking up half the Target parking lot, but it just smells like spring is in the air. It's coming. I'm ready. That centerpiece will be my next project.
Anyway, why we're all here: those candlesticks! The tone-on-tone of them against the black wall makes me so happy, and the way the light comes in from the patio door and highlights the details on them is just beautiful.
Finally, the first item I picked up today that ended up making the biggest difference on my kitchen island:

Oh, and the orchids! You can't quite see it in the picture, but I got one with a round concrete-look vase and another with a square glossy white one. I bought them for the basement, which is still a work-in-progress (there will be a dedicated post showing them along with everything else going on). I did swap out the concrete one with one I had in the bathroom (I just counted and I now have 8 white orchids throughout my house... whoops). I feel like the shiny white vase and the black glossy one I stole from the bathroom will look super cute together with all the other black and white decor going on down there.
Next up on the project docket: SPRING!
